EDEN Organic Safflower Oil starts with a high oleic variety of Safflower carthamus tinctorius, organically grown on the U.S. Northern plains. Its seeds are softly expeller pressed and then lightly filtered, a process that protects and preserves its fine nutrients, flavor, and integrity. We bottle our natural unrefined oils in amber glass and displace the oxygen in the top of the bottle with pure nitrogen. These steps further protect and preserve.

Safflower is a member of the daisy family. It grows 2 to 3 feet with an upright white stem and shiny oval, sharp pointed leaves. Safflower seeds are about the size of barley kernels, somewhat four sided, white and shiny. Safflower is native to the mountainous regions of southwest Asia and Ethiopia. Today it's grown extensively in India, in some parts of southern Europe, and in the U.S. The flowers are a medicinal herb and their yellow and red colorings are used to dye silk and other fabric. Safflower is known in India as Koosumbha and in China as Hoang-tchi. In the West it is sometimes referred to as 'fake saffron' because it has uses similar to this herb though the two are not related.

It's best to avoid commercial vegetable oil that is heated above its smoke point, treated with the solvent hexane and sodium hydroxide, and chemically bleached and deodorized at 400° F. For delicious and nutritious unrefined oils, choose EDEN.
